What's your favorite?

I've used some cheap ones that left bristle pieces on the meat.

What's a good one?

While I'm usually a "natural" kinda guy, I've always been annoyed with
the natural bristle basting brush. They're hard to clean (I don't like
the idea of using soap on them) and, as you said, they fall apart. I've
come across some in "barbeque tool sets" [that I received as gifts] that
smelled of mildew when new (needless to say, most of them, like 95% of
everything else are "Made in China"). So, channel surfing one day I
made my first ever purchase on QVC for this set (after I looked up
silcone brushes on Amazon and they cost $8 each).

So far I'm pretty happy with 'em.

I'm with SW on this one. After getting disgusted with the cheapo kitchen
store models, I got a 3 inch synthetic paint brush for 1.99.......so far so
good.

Bought a "basting brush" at IKEA last time I was there. It's not a brush at
all. But a 2" square peice of rubber, about 1/16" of an inch thick, pliable
like silicone, and filled with holes about 1/8" in diameter.

The idea is that the holes load up with sauce and hold the sauce via surface
tension long enough to get it onto the meat. Works well. Cleans up easily.
No bristles in your mouth!. Here's a pic: http://tinyurl.com/yuhn8

You might be able to buy online @ the IKEA website. Comes with a similar
tool shaped like a little shovel, used to shovel sauce on in a more generous
manner.

Synthetic brushes should be OK. Just be careful around the hot grates or
other hot surfaces or the brush might melt. A high quality boar bristle
paint brush might also work. (have seen this as a recommendation-not tried
it myself) . When I select a paint brush I have no problem giving the brush
several tugs and wacks to see if the bristles turn loose.
If the baste is thin, I use a cheap spray bottle. I have picked up a cheap
one at Walmart for under $2.

I use a spray bottle for thin sauces and one of these

for "BBQ" sauce. And actually don't use either very much.
