MECO Charcoal BBQ Grill
The Meco that's square and has the adjustable grill level? I've got a high
end grill and a professional smoker, but I still grill steaks on the Meco. Red hot coals and the meat about an inch from the coals. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Spud |

Mine is in storage now, using mainly the gasser for grillin and the WSM for smoking. I never went in for the weber kettle cause I couldn't see how to get the food close to the coals - far, I can see, but close - no. - Bo |

Hey! It works with ties. ;~) A man after my own heart. Works for kitchen equipment also. I'm picky about kitchen tools, my MIL (God rest her soul) wasn't. |

I've known mine for 15 years and my experience has been just like yours. Kili, you be the judge who the true MIL connoisseurs are here. Actually, the two principles I was trying to convey are valid not only for MIL encounters: 1. ANY gift given with genuinely good intentions must be accepted as if it is a ton of gold. 2. Try to make the best of every bad situation. Now, go grill something. C. |

Hello guys..Even so, the traditional charcoal BBQ still continues to be an American tradition. To a BBQ lover, there is not better way to cook burger patties, steaks, or any other meat than over a grill filled up with live charcoal.

Meco charcoal grills offer a series of adjustable vents across the front and back, and adjustable vent on the top. The possible venting variations with this number of vents make it easy to achieve the optimal grilling temperature for what ever you happen to be cooking. I think it is good for cooking.

About 3 years ago, my grandparents gave me their old Meco from the mid '80s that has been under a cover, in a shed, in excellent condition for the last 20 years or so. I thought "Heh... whatever... It ain't a Weber, so it ain't a grill!" Consequently, without putting much mileage on the Meco, I bought a Weber 22.5 One Touch Silver. Fast forward to today: I use my Meco and my Ugly Drum Smoker 90% of the time. I've used my very nice Charbroil gas grill about 4 times in the last two years, and the same goes for the Weber. I keep coming back to that old Meco! I think my wife has forgotten that I said I'd give away the Meco when I got the Weber. ;-) My favorite thing to do is tri-tip roasts. Start about 3/4 of a chimney of Kingsford Competition, lay them about 1-2 coals deep in the back end of the charcoal grate, lower the cooking grate to just above the coals and sear the heck out of the tri-tip, then raise the grate, pull the tri-tip to the front, put some manzanita or oak on the cooking grate just above the coals, and cook indirect. I can hit a perfect 300 degrees with ease, and I let it go until the meat is at about 140. YUM! Yesterday I tried cooking some tri-tips on my brother-in-law's gas grill (we're here visiting for 12 days), and I was NOT HAPPY. I bought him a Meco from Amazon as an early birthday present, and it'll be here in 2 days. ;-) http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007XXNRC/...0_M2C_ST1_dp_1 Screamin' deal, if you ask me! There's one thing I can do well on my Weber, and that's smoking a ~5lb pork shoulder roast at 225. One of their indirect charcoal baskets full of coals (only light about 5 coals!) and dampers open about 3/16", and PERFECT. I'm gonna give it a shot on the Meco at some point. Maybe I can just use one of my Weber charcoal baskets. -Rodney Last edited by Rodney Sparks : 30-06-2012 at 11:18 PM |

Exactly, no need to over-complicate things. Charcoal grilling is the best over a few beers!
