Default Question about Weber Grills (and Kenmore and Char-Broil)

After reading all of the posts to this NG for the last day or so, I am
99% convinced that the best gas grills for under $500 are the Weber
grills -- Silver A or B or Gold C, etc. When I looked at them at Sears
yesterday there are two featrues that I am concerned about:

1. The porcelin covered grates are much thinner than they are on other
grills like the Kenmore or Brinkman. Is it your experience that these
hold the heat well and distribute it evenly?

2. The burners run from side to side, rather than from front to back.
When I want to cook only a couple of burgers, doesn't that mean I will
have to heat the whole grill, even if I only use one burner? Seems
like a less than optimal design to me. Again, what is your
experience.

Any commnets on the Kenmore grills?

Any comments on the Char-Broil grills? I like the lifetime warrenty
on the all brass burners, but I noticed they did not have flame
arrester plates that all of the other groups have.

Are stainless steel burners better than cast ron?

Thanks for your help;l.

Default Question about Weber Grills (and Kenmore and Char-Broil)

I'm a loyal Weber owner.... WSM, 221/2" Kettle, and a 3 burner Genesis I
purchased at Home Depot. The Home Depot offering has cast iron grills...
deffinately the way to go.

Default Question about Weber Grills (and Kenmore and Char-Broil)

Oops, I forget to comment on #2. Weber offers an excellent instruction
manual and cook book. Many recipes suggest indirect heat, which means that
the middle burner is left off. I had the same concern as you regarding
burners installed from left to right or front to back. I am totally sold on
the Weber design. Also, their customer service can't be beat. I had the
grill for 4 3/4 years and they still replace a part at no charge. Go Weber!
