Weber changes genesis grills in 2004

I talked to the local dealer and he said the Weber Genesis Gold C
(probably all genesis models) have some slight changes this year.
solid (versus mesh) shelve on bottom, cosmetic redesign of hood and
handle, etc

Has anyone researched the changes to see if there is any benefit to
buying 2004 model versus 2003?

The Gold C on Amazon is $499 - which is a good price - but probably a
2003 model

thanks

What year model ya got shouldn't be the decidin factor. Features and
capabilities ya want from it should.

Sometimes "improvement" is a bad thing. A solid shelf would tend to (IMO)
collect more rain and/or dust. I'd do further research on both, and decide
based on features that you like best, and then on price. Availability (time to
delivery) could also be a determining factor (unless you especially like the
features of the less available model).

One thing about Weber "upgrades" is that they will usually fit the earlier
models also (such as the composite versus wood slat side tables). I'd go for
the best price. If there is anything on the new models you really think is
important you can change over to it when the existing part breaks or wears
out.

BTW, I saw a Genesis Silver B with porcelain cast iron grates at my local
Home Depot about 2 weeks ago for $399--great price. This does appear to be
the time to buy if you are considering a Weber gas grill.

You might want to look at the "flavorizer bar" setup in both grills. I've got a
4 yr. old model which has two sets of flavorizer bars at opposing angles. The
new one I saw has only one set going from left to right.

Seems like the two sets would give better heat distribution.

Actually it's much better with one set and why they changed it. On my old
unit I took out the upper set and it was better, than I had a single set
(like the new unit's) custom made (had to do that because the length of the
bars in the new one is longer) anyway, with the new bars made to new spec.,
it's a VERY nice change to the old unit. A Weber rep told be the reason for
the change was because they found the old style caused hot/cool spots and
poorer heat distribution.

Sounds like I might need to re-think this and make some mods to my Weber.

Yeah, I was lucky 'cause my dad knows a guy who can fabricate SS so I not
only got new style BUT nice SS too :-D It's one fine grilling machine now
(not that it wasn't before) but it's a very nice change. It's also almost
impossible to cause a bad flare up anymore. I've purposely tried to make it
flare and it's damn near fool proof now.
