Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

What the? what the hell do I have to do with this? Are you suggesting that

Default Just say "no" to binaries on afb

While it's obvious the current afb denizens are overwhelmingly against
having binaries posted here, there is one additional argument I haven't seen
made that is probably relevant.

Now that I have a broadband connection I'll go to a binaries group without
hesitation. But if I had a 56Kb (or slower) dial-up, I wouldn't likely
spend any time on a binaries group. And if I went to a non-binaries group,
clicked on a message and a giant download started I would be, shall we say,
chagrined.

My retention on here goes back to,...a post from Hound on 6/20/03 Talking Q
& Coffee. Dang miss that guy.
I figure if you want pics about Q go to ABF, I like this just the way it is.

Despite a lot of misuse, there are rules of etiquette for
the various newsgroups. Lengthy text threads in binary
groups are taboo, but it's done anyway. Binaries in
dedicated discussion groupls (text) is worse. Abuse of
a group charter for personal benefit is not in the best
interest of all users. Therefore it should not be done.
Retention time is a problem for casual surfers. No doubt
about it.

Abusers of usenet should be aware that some of the major
newsgroup providers adhere to a stringent policy of
acceptable use. Acceptable use is monitored by dozens
of accredited administrators around the world. A rmgroup
post by any one of them can cause a newsgroup to be
blacklisted for cause. Each ISP will then treat that
blackball according to its' own whim. My primary ISP,
Airnews will not carry AFB because it's been rmgrouped
for lack of published charter. For that reason I subscribed
to Teranews for ABF only. Retention is a few days at best,
but it's free.

Earliest post today on Teranews/ABF is Dec 26, 2003. There's
a couple of hundred posts showing.

The expiration time on Alt.Binaries.Food is preposterous.
Being an alt.binaries group, it gets lumped in with the handfuls of
PORN groups. The pix folks post of their food porn only last long
enough for the addicts to view them. When us reformed (or
non-admitted) addicts get there the beautiful pix are long gone.
I would like to see if there is objection to posting of BBQ Pictures
to this group.

Damn, there's always someone who wants to go against the grain. This is a
NON-binary group; keep it that way.

Graeme, rarely does monroe fail to make me laugh...and Miranda the Barbecue
Widow, whose presence I have missed for some lengthy time now, is a major
treat too.
It's personalities that make for a good ng, even if we bicker occasionally.
