Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

I pay homage at the feet of the barbecue gods, and am posting a newbie
question.

Has anyone tried to modify an ECB by using a Weber Smoky Joe kettle as
a replacement fire pot?

I've read the direction in the FAQ about modifying an ECB. My thought
is that I could move the legs of the ECB to the outside as per the FAQ
and raise the ECB up on bricks to get the proper clearance over the
Smoky Joe. I think this would increase the amount of charcoal for
longer burns, plus give me more control over airflow for better
temperature control.

I measured yesterday, and the Smoky Joe will fit nicely into the ECB.

Any thoughts?

Matthew L Martin did something similar with a sunbeam bottom on his ECBX2:

Sure. Go for it! If it works, tell us how. Then you will be a bbq
god, too.
