Default fire pit grill (New Zealand Suppliers?)

I'm looking at doing a diy Firepit as per below.

http://www.instructables.com/id/SUKJ7BYFB11U623/

Has anyone done a fire pit in NZ and is there an easy (read cheap) way
to get a large cooking grill and ring.

Thanks for your help

Welcome to the group, Stex! Help is on the way. North Island or South? I
forwarded this to my Kiwi mate in East Napier.

Depends a bit how well you know your local metal shops, or how good an
attitude they have toward fabricating something like this. Pretty
basic materials really. Some shops would want an arm and a leg, some
not so much.

Or you can canibalize from something.

You could make the grill from heavy expanded metal mesh.
http://images.google.com/images?q=expanded+metal+mesh
Might require added support from a few pieces of angle iron
bolted to it.

The ring could come from a steel tub (stainless probably)
Stay away from gavlinized metal. I'm not sure the fire
pit would get hot enough, but gavinized metal emits
toxic fumes (due to the zinc coating) when welded on.

That's what my Klose uses. 4 pieces of angle iron make a frame for the
expanded metal grate.
Making a circular frame is a bit more difficult if he insists on a
round pit.

A two-sided folded baffle, one side on the north, the other on the west.
Don't wimp out on us, mate! On the really windy days, you can get in some
fine rail-down sailing!
