Grill max temps

A couple years back, my son gave me an IR thermometer. You point
its laser beam at something and it tells you the temperature. I
used it quite a bit here at the house to test the ceiling temps
upstairs in order to locate hot spots from missing insulation. It
worked like a charm and also was great on doors, windows and other
places that might be leaking in hot air. In Las Vegas, that can
be a real problem.

I hesitated using it on the grill, since I was concerned that a
too hot temperature would ruin it. I was assured by a friend that
it wouldn't be the case, so when I was grilling salmon on the gas
grill, I also fired up the IR grill and measured some
temperatures.

Gas Grill at flame tamer, fully on and 15 minute preheat: 790f
at grates 760f
IR Grill, aimed at ceramic emitters, full on and 10 minute preheat
1220f
at V grate 1180f

Now, we know.

Thanks for that info. I wish the commercial IR grill manufacturing companies
would make a product that does that.
