Default Chocolate cake recipe name

Would anyone happen to know the name (and perhaps have the recipe) for a
chocolate cake that is intended to be made all in the baking dish. You are
instructed to make 4 wells for the ingredients....and if I am not mistaken
it has vinegar in it.

I first made in in junior high home-ec many years ago. IIRC it was/is
sometimes referred to as a snack cake.

Anyone?

TIA,
Amy

My grandmother had this jotted down on a sheet of paper in an old
cookbook, but I have no idea where it actually came from. I think it's
what you want, but it only calls for 3 wells or holes in the dry
ingredients.

Wacky Chocolate Cake

1 1/2 cup cake flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp white vinegar
1/4 cup cooking oil
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg

Combine cake flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda and salt in sifter. Sift
into baking pan. In a cup, mix vinegar and water together.

With a spoon, make three "holes" in the dry ingredients that are in the
baking pan. Pour oil in one hole, water/vinegar mixture in the second,
and the egg in the third.

Mix until all flour is moistened. Check near the bottom of the pan to
ensure that bottom ingredients are mixed. Smooth top of batter, then bake
in preheated 375F degree oven. Test for doneness in about 35 minutes.

Thank you, Wayne! That is exactly what it is. "Wacky" cake. For the life of
me I couldn't remember the name!

Thank you so much.

You're very welcome, Amy! I remember my grandmother baking this for us
grandchildren. It was quite tasty! I think she frosted it with a
mixture of cocoa powder, powdered sugar, butter, and a bit of milk.

It looks like it lives to its name….
It is wacky or crazy to produce….
Think about it….
Four wells…..
You make a well with flour, another one with sugar, other well with
baking soda and the last a well with cocoa?

Or you combine some of the flour with soda, another set of flour with
a portion of cocoa ,another mixture of flour and part sugar, a
well of sugar and part of the cocoa.
Then in which well do you
Add the, vinegar, oil, eggs, milk or water?

You will be playing a child game how to select where to add the liquid
ingredients.
well one, well two, well three, well four?
Well four, well three, well two well one?

Pretty interesting procedure indeed!
Due to the complexity of that cake making step you feel hungry
And then you will rush out to the convenience store nearby ….. buy a
snack…
A Twinkie!
Voila! You are already eating a snack cake !

I've just recently added about 40 more chocolate links to my site.
http://www.chocolatarian.com
Altogether there are more than 170 links. If you would like to add a
link to a favorite chocolate site that I don't have yet just say so
and I will check it out.

There is a page also for chocolate recipe links and a page for low
carb chocolate links.
