It all depends what you want to achieve. They can make a decent loaf
but you can also make loaves with a minimum of work in the oven (such
as the no-knead loaves or the Artisan in 5-a-day Method). I think if
you have a small kitchen and don't want fuss or mess they are great.
Use it as a gateway drug to move onto making loaves by hand!
