Actually, this is a (n unattributed) phrase I've seen more than once in early 20th century literature. The entire quote is "The French are a *** people fond of light wine and dancing." I omitted "***" in light of its current meaning. I suppose it was taken from some popular travel book. Similar to other characterizations of ethnic/national groups. BTW, the only 'ethnic' groceries in my area are Korean-owned, and carry quite a diverse (and seemingly random) selection of Korean, Thai, Japanese, Hispanic, and (too rarely) Indian foods and implements. |

If you would read and follow entire threads instead of replying to some sentence in a post written three months ago, you might have more of a clue. Peter |
