Doubtful, but there are people who claim all kinds of weird things are
cure-alls. Including diet.

Fake leather is usually derived from petrochemicals. How many animals
die from pollution from refining petroleum into synthetic materials?

In the end, someone wearing real leather wears a fraction of one dead
animal. How would you justify killing *lots* of animals during petroleum
extraction and refining for your fake fur or your fake leather? I think
it's a meaningless -- even hypocritical -- gesture to kill many animals
just so you don't have to wear part of one dead animal.
