Filling out a case at Chambers Street Wines last month, I spotted a
Beaujolais I didn't know. Some quick research at a couple of sites
didn't show any notes since the 1998 or 1999, but I decided to order
the 2002 Domaine Jo=EBl Rochette "Cuv=E9e des Braves" R=E9gni=E9 Vieilles
Vignes based on CSW's rep in Beaujolais. After having some leftover
Hecula with dinner last night, I opened a bottle. Surprisingly hard for
R=E9gni=E9. Ho hum. Tonight, with a so-so takeout chicken marsala and
fried zucchini, this wine (served lightly chilled, I threw in fridge
for a about 15 minutes) just sang. Floral nose, raspberry and red
currant fruit over layers of earth and more flowers. Surprisingly
tannic on finish, but still just lovely. Maybe between the tannins and
the showing better on day 2 this needs time, but I just will decant it
next time ("decant Beaujolais- the man has gone mad!") A-/B+
Another argument for just saying "yes" to almost any any Loire or
Beaujolais than CSW stocks.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent
wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't
drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no
promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency
