Yep, coffee roasting produces smoke - lots of it. Goes with the
territory.

I'm working on a roaster that will roast around 10 oz per batch and
when I run a batch, I get lots more smoke than from my old 3 oz
roaster.

A word of warning about roasting outside - be sure the smoke more or
less stays away from your house otherwise you'll get a coffee streaked
house over time. The smoke carries oils that settle out on the first
cool surface the smoke touches.
