Default cleaning grill - before or after cooking?

I never clean mine after cooking. The next time I go to use it I
preheat it for 10 minutes or so and wire brush it. Done. My theory
(albeit probably wrong ;-) ) is that it'll protect the grates somewhat
through all of the humidity and if something can live to 600+dF and
hurt me then it deserves to win. Never had a problem yet though.
