Despite a lot of misuse, there are rules of etiquette for
the various newsgroups. Lengthy text threads in binary
groups are taboo, but it's done anyway. Binaries in
dedicated discussion groupls (text) is worse. Abuse of
a group charter for personal benefit is not in the best
interest of all users. Therefore it should not be done.
Retention time is a problem for casual surfers. No doubt
about it.

Abusers of usenet should be aware that some of the major
newsgroup providers adhere to a stringent policy of
acceptable use. Acceptable use is monitored by dozens
of accredited administrators around the world. A rmgroup
post by any one of them can cause a newsgroup to be
blacklisted for cause. Each ISP will then treat that
blackball according to its' own whim. My primary ISP,
Airnews will not carry AFB because it's been rmgrouped
for lack of published charter. For that reason I subscribed
to Teranews for ABF only. Retention is a few days at best,
but it's free.
