Over the last two nights, with light dinners of salad, bread, cheese and
sausage, we opened:
2006 Baudry Chinon 'Les Granges'
nose: herbal, leaves, dusty minerals
palate: initially, a bit of spiky acidity, juicy red fruit, lightly
tannic; after a night in the fridge, much smoother, even richer, almost
plummy
Our first Loire red from '06, this early-drinking bottling shows the
ripeness of the vintage, yet maintains good focus and balance. It
probably will improve with a year or two in the cellar, but it is
drinking well even now.
