Some friends came over for dinner tonight and brought with them a red
wine from South Africa. Not wishing to offend, we opened it:
2001 La Motte 'Musique' Franschhoek (39%CS 31% Merlot 29% Cab Franc)
nose: ripe, plummy fruit, tarry, cocoa
palate: medium-full body, decent acidity, rich fruit
Although the grapes would appear to give it a Bordeaux-like character,
in fact this wine seemed a lot closer to a CA Zinfandel than anything
else. A decent wine, albeit one in a style that we don't need a lot of.
