Default Second harvest / pick

curious about experiences harvesting the second growth. quality
differences? challenges?

I have an opportunity to get some carneros pinot. wondering if it's
worth the effort.

let me qualify that statement a little before I get the "of course it's
worth it"

second growths do not have the same volume of grapes in the clusters.
they're approx 20% the size of a first growth. I checked out the
grapes last weekend and they were still pretty tart (the first picking
occurred 3 weeks ago today). I'm curious about experiences that
required selective picking, issues with the numbers, etc. the second
part of this is that I will be hand destemming. between the picking
and destemming I could be at this all weekend with only a couple
hundred pounds.

I'm already planning on having plenty of wine this year. I would,
however, love to do a pinot.

Hi Patrick
Can you describe what you mean as secondary growth. Are you referring to
the 2nd and third clusters on a shoot or the small clusters that develop at
the end of the shoot?

thanks
Joe

Patrick,
I pick second crop Pinot in Carneros every year and let me say it does
not last long. It has never received anything less than a silver medal
in the Harvest Fair in Santa Rosa. I say go for it. It is harder
picking sure but that just makes it that much better (and harder to
share). It is worth the effort in my opinion.
