Default Racking and then filter/bottle right afterwards?

Can anyone out there tell me if this is ok to do. Can a person rack and
then filter/bottle right afterwards? The reason I ask is I have a
cabernet sauvignon that was made last October it is completely clear but
has some sediment on the bottom of the carboy. I thought instead of
racking and topping up, I could eliminate the need to top up by going
right to the filter/bottle stage. What is everyone's thoughts on this
process?

Thanks
Jeff

Sure, but what's the hurry? That Cab could stand an extra racking and a few
months more bulk aging. You might not even have to bother with filtering it
then.

But that's just me.

Ok, I'm curious. What do you expect to settle out if you have filtered it?

I kind of take the opposite approach. Filtering I think is kind of rough on
a wine. I always filter into a carboy containing a fresh dose of sulfite and
then bottle it right away. I figure if it is going to have bottle shock
anyway, why not just bottle it after I have "filter shocked" it.
