Default TN Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Riesling Auslese 1976, Deinhard Estate

The Deidesheimer Herrgottsacker Riesling Auslese 1976, Deinhard Estate,
A.P. Nr. 590732301177,was stored properly since shortly after release
and had a good cork and fill.

The wine is holding well and likely will last well for at least a few
more years. The color is medium yellow. There now is considerable clean
aged Riesling petrol character. The fruit is mainly of a brandied
apricot sort. There is some hint of honey. The alcohol was listed as
9%. This is a very good wine with no technical flaws. It is not as
complex, tropical, and rich as some top auslesen from 1976. It is a bit
soft for a Riesling - what one time might have been called a ladies
wine. I think the balance would have been more to my taste if the wine
had more acid or if it had been fermented to a higher alcohol level
which might have reduced the softness a bit. Deinhard is a very old
firm that made large amounts of various rather commercial wines as well
as some wines from estares owned by it. The firm was sold by the owners
in the late 1990s, but the wine estates were retained by the former
owners of the firm.
