Default TN: Alzinger Loibner Mühlpoint GV Smaragd 2001

Hi all.
We had some time ago a number of threads on the merits of Grüner Veltliner
which led me to buy a couple of bottles, partly on the recommendations from
Michael Pronay, our resident expert on these wines.
Tonight I opened this bottle and found the following:
Restrained flavour, only after a while opening to reveal some spiced apples.
Nice taste of the same, pretty good length and a pleasing dry minerality.
Quite long aftertaste and to me this, like other GVs, tastes more of dry
grass, like hay in a barn. (Any other with that judgement?)
Compared to some other wines I know better, namely the dry Rieslings of
Germany, I'd have to say that this one is not a knockout. Not bad at all,
mind you, but I failed to find the expected richness, power and
concentration from a Smaragd quality wine.

Mühlpoint is not Leo Alzinger's veltliner. Try to get hold of
Steinertal, Loibenberg or the "Reserve" without site name. That
makes at least three wines the producer sees above this one. (And
there could have been a very slight interferrence due to low-level
TCA taint, but that's another story.)
