Hello Tom;
We, that is self and Xina, had the very dsitinct pleasure of celebrating New Year with Mike and Kathy Tommasi. On New Year´s Day lunch Mike opened your Ch Burbank 2002 (Mis en bouteille dans notre garage). I am very happy to say that this wine immediately hit my shortlist of best US wines I have tasted - and it is a very short list, unfortunately - having all the good properties of my favorite US wines, such as generosity, roundness, good fruit, while being at the same time free of the excesses sometimes found in the US products ( no doubt a negative sample) on sale in the Swedish Systembolaget, to wit, over-oaking and too much alcohol. The Ch Burbank, apart from having a delightful pale buttercup color, was replete with honey, butter, I also found a very slight pepperiness, and it made good and elegant use of new oak. Wonderful. How sad California is so far away and so hard to drive away from, carrying a box of twelve bottles of wine ... Here´s to your excellent work, and here is another one to the generosity of Mike and Kathy. Cheers! Nils Gustaf -- Respond to nils dot lindgren at drchips dot se |
