I went back to my wine store this evening and bought the last two
available bottles of Sea Smoke Botella. I spied a bottle of Siduri
Sonoma County 2002 and bought it, against the advice of the wine seller.
He said it wouldn't age well. I said my wine cellar is my closet.
Not a good way to impress an oenophile.
I asked what he'd recommend. He said Hansel and Rozak. Any opinions on
those?
I opened the Siduri 90 minutes ago. Creamy cherry and a little sweet,
but not too bad. I've researched it and found others who've praised the
finish. I get nothing. It's a good wine, but not the pinot noir I'm
looking for.
Also, anyone heard of an Italian wine I believe is spelled Carpri? I
believe it's Tuscan.

There is an Umbrian producer by the name of Arnaldo Caprai from the
Montefalco area of Umbria that prduces some fine reds and whites

Hansel or Hanzell?


FWIW, I really like Siduri's wines - much more so than Sea Smoke, as I
mentioned. Sonomy County is probably the least interesting bottling,
though.

I think it's a good wine and it's certainly worth exploring other
vineyards and vintages. Someone has pointed out to me that even
something like transportation can affect finish. I corked the bottle.
I'll chill it even more and see if that makes a difference tonight.
It's Walter Hansel. Parker says in one review that one of hansel's
Three Rows Vineyard releases -- I can't remember the vintage -- is like
Romanee-Conti. I'd like to try that one because it's probably the
closest I'll ever come to Romanee-Conti.

I went back and iced the wine tonight. The finish showed up. So whereas
regular pinot noir should be cooler than red wine, Siduri should be
cooler than regular pinot noir, at least from what I can tell of this
tasting.
I like this wine.

Rozak's Santa Rita Hills bottlings are great wines for the money. They
generally have plenty of dark, roasted berry fruit and are richly
textured, which is a true characteristic of this fantastic appellation

Some other, more well-known producers, such as Brewer-Clifton, use
Rozak Ranch fruit in their bottlings, which are dynamite as well, but
often 2X the cost.
