So Sunday night while I was at Brazilian cab thing Betsy wanted
something with her dinner, and opened a 2001 Grao Vasco (Dao). She only had a glass, so I went to sample on Monday. Sweet plum fruit with good acidity, a little earthy/stinky edge. Despite the acidity it seems the fruit is actually a bit overripe, it almost feels like there's RS (but I don't think there is). Someone gave this to me on the idea "you won't believe this is $5", but I'd say that's about right. B- For dinner Betsy made veal chops with sage, accompanied by mushroom risottto and spinach. I think this veal dish goes best with white, and opened my last bottle of 2002 Guy Roulot Bourgogne Blanc. I'm actually glad it's my last bottle. It's not bad- a credible BurgBlanc, some light toast and honey notes over apple fruit. But it seems a bit thin, and I think I liked both the 2000 & 2001 versions better. This is disappointing because lots of other producers hit it out of the park in this vintage. B/B- Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency |
