There's a great documentary series on "The Australian Wine Trail" on
the High-Def channel (INHD). Last night they were focussed on McLaren Vale (I learned that we call it "vail" and they call it "val"). A prominent mention across a range of vineyards was a blend they've developed called "Cadenzia"--it's based on Grenache and then can use whatever other varietals the vintner wants--most use some Cab Sauv and a bit of Mouvedre, but several mentioned Petit Verdot and one indicated an exclusivity with their use of Zinfandel. Among the wineries featured we Dog Ridge, Chalk Hill, Kangarilla Rd, Shingleback and Yangarra. The wines looked incredible (the result of a high definition close up) with deep chocolatey colors and long viscous legs that virtually covered the Riedel Vinum Cab glasses they were displayed in. My question is, does anyone have an experience with Cadenzia? Any recommendations among Oz producers? In seeking answers to my own question, I found this excellent summary of the Cadenzia Project: http://www.adelaidereview.com.au/arc..._region1.shtml Looks like so far it is small release and the first commercially available production will debut this year. Seems one to watch for. Ed Rasimus Fighter Pilot (USAF-Ret) "When Thunder Rolled" www.thunderchief.org www.thundertales.blogspot.com |

I've had Shingleback, both their regular Shiraz and their D Block Reserve. The latter runs about $40/bottle but is rich, deeply concentrated (hint of smokiness) and delicious! dcr |

Martin I used to work in Adelaide in the 80s and it was certainly the vail back then. Mount Baker Road was one of the great pleasures of driving in South Australia back then. |

Yes, but you may not pronounce "veil" the same way most Americans do either. Every time I've heard someone from Australia pronounce "vale" it sounded like the way I'd pronounce "vile." -- Ken Blake Please reply to the newsgroup |
