Friday was nasty out, hot and humid, and Betsy had picked up a rack of lamb.
I've never done a whole rack on grill before, but it would have been a shame to slice into chops, and it was too hot to cook inside. So I found a recipe in Weber cookbook(!?!), seared the lamb, then seasoned and put on mustard, breadcrumbs, herbs, and butter. Pretty tasty, along with the orzo, leftover spinach, and salad Betsy prepared. We were going to the movies ("Maria Full of Grace", good though with a few lapses), so I just opened a 375. 1998 Grand Ormeau (Lalande-de-Pomerol) showed quite well, medium-to-full bodied with a bit of oak, full dark berry fruit with a good finish. B+ (far better than last bottle I had, which I think may have been mildly corked). Tonight Betsy made Pierre Franey's "Coquilles St./ Jacques et Poireaux avec Pernod" (scallops and leeks w/Pernod), delicious (and she said simple). Along with Pierre's rice and salad. We served the 2002 Jean-Marc Brocard's "Kimmeridgien" Bourgogne. Clean Chardonnay with some chalky minerals, apple and lemon fruit, good acidity, good length. I need to get more of this, at $10 or so a good QPR. B Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency. * Dale Dale Williams Drop "damnspam" to reply |
