Default How to sample Chardonnay

On a recent visit to a local Cajun restaurant, I selected a bottle of Toad
Hollow 2002 Chardonnay to go with our seafood entrees. Their wine list was
priced attractively, and it was not the worst Chardonnay I have ever
tasted, by a long shot. However, ---

Our server was cheerful, polite, well intentioned and very very clumsy.
She must have been instructed to offer the cork of the wine to the host for
"sniffing" before pouring the sample in his glass. Presumably, dropping the
cork on the floor was her own innovation. More troubling was the fact that
she brought the two salads AND THE WINE while I was still in the middle of
my shrimp cocktail. Someday, if you are feeling masochistic, try sampling
some Chardonnay while you have a mouth filled with catsup!
