Default Who or what Produces Sharpshooter Wine?

I often see this wine for sale on the Internet with a most recent offer for a
Sharpshooter "Gun Club" Chardonnay. I thought that this might be another silly
wine name from Australia, but since its from California and not Australia I was
wondering if it might have any affiliation with the NRA, some eccentric gun
loving wine maker, or Bonny Doon.
Not that I really care either way, I am just a little perplexed by such a
strong masculine name that doesn't necessarily conger up the thought of fine
wine. Maybe seeing a bottle in person would seem a little less odd then just
seeing it in print. Anybody know the scoop on this wine? Is it any good?

Sounds like someone with a bucket of lemons is trying to make
lemonade. The "glassy winged sharpshooter" has been bugging wine
growers in the California area for a couple of years, so apparently
some entrepreneur has decided to name his vineyard after the little
pest. For a place to buy the wine check:

Also find the 2001 Shiraz and Cab Sauv at:

And 2002 Gun Club Chard futures at:

Google is your friend.

The glassy winged sharpshooter is an insect, in case you (OP) didn't
deduce that. It is the vector for Pearce's (sp?) Disease, a serious
wine grape problem. (There was a story about it yesterday on NPR.)
Seems to me an unfortuitous name for a wine. Why not Bunchrot Syrah,
or Cutworm Cabernet, or Leafroll Virus Viognier.
