Default Question: Jacques Prieur?

Hello,
Off to France on SUnday, and spending two days in the Beaune area. Anybody
has an opinion of jacques prieur? Entries in hachette + their web site
fairly oozes excellence - at a high price ... What say you all?
Cheers
Nils

My general impression is that their vineyard sites ooze excellence,
their actual wines less so. I've had very limited experiences, but an
'85 Musigny last week didn't especially impress. And '85 Musigny
should be out of the ballpark.

Any relationship to the Prieur-Lachine operation up in Bordeaux?

No, Prieur-Lichine was a 4th growth castle bought by the (in)famous Alex
Lichine, who added his name to the original - BTW, I think that should be
Prieuré ...

I'd say that Hachette sums it up pretty well. The newer wines tend to
follow the trend in Burgundy of riper richer wines with a luxury feel
and deep flavor profile. More blackcherry and cassis than bing cherry
and earth.

I should be clear that their rep is solid, just not maybe quite up to
the level of their astounding holdings

No worries, Ed. I once used to figure on the then almost-Net of COmpuserve
under the monniker of Umlaut Lymebranch "who hath come to put doubledots
over all your a's and o's wherat there shall be much complaining and
gnashing of teeth".

Cheers

Nils
