Default [italian] Zafferano of Cascia (Umbria-Italy)

At declinar autumn, when the seeds of the earth preparing for the long
winter sleep for lush bloom in the spring, squares, in streets and
shops of Cascia, the country devotes an Exhibition saffron market, in
order to let people know this spice present in the territory since the
Middle Ages.

The Exhibition Market takes place the last weekend of October in the
days 26/27/28 October, in the period immediately following its
flowering plant that is accomplished in no more than three weeks; The
collection is made by hand in the early hours of the day, before the
flowers open, in order to allow the parties maintain clean precious,
limited to stigmas and pistils; parties will then roasted for about 20
minutes, until the high compressed between the fingers begins to
powder. A curiosity: To obtain a gram of stigmas need nearly 200
flowers.
