With tonight's dinner of cheese tortellini tossed with roasted
vegetables, smoked chicken-apple sausage and pesto, we opened: 2005 Francois Cazin (Le Petit Chambord) Cour-Cheverny color: pale golden-yellow nose: grapefruit and honey palate: rich, rounded mouthfeel, good acidity, citrus, melon, honey, long finish This wine from the Loire valley is made from the Romorantin grape, about which I can tell you nothing more than it's white. Jean and I both agreed that it bears more than a passing resemblance to Grüner Veltliner, except that it lacks the pepper and green pea flavors that we often associate with GV. The only other example of this wine that we had was a 2001 consumed last Fall and which didn't really show us much. This wine was a different story and impressed us both. 13.5% ABV and $13.49 with case discount. Mark Lipton -- alt.food.wine FAQ: http://winefaq.hostexcellence.com |
