Last night, I decided to end a day of continuing frustrations by opening a
bottle of Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. Perhaps I added to my list of frustrations by being somewhat premature. It was quite closed, with little or no nose. Remembering my recent complaint about one red wine having residual sweetness, this was the diametric opposite. It was SO DRY that it almost made one pucker, as in Alum. However, the color, body and underlying structure hinted at fine things to come. Somehow, I must learn to exercise more patience with recent vintages. For this reason, I shall withhold giving a rating until I acquire and re-taste another bottle or two (or three or four or more - in Loveland, for me and my gal);-) Godzilla |
