Default QPR Wines for September

There was some discussion of keeping a "recommended wines" list in the
FAQs in other thread. That might be a little unwieldy, so here's an
alternate idea. On the first of each month (obviously too late for
September) some start a thread entitled "QPR Wines for September".
Please post up to 5 wines that you thought were a great value and feel
others should look for.
1) Does a price limit of $15US or your local equivalent seem about
right (we can also do a splurge thread).
2) I'd encourage each poster to limit themselves to one post of 5 value
wines per month, to keep things from being dominated by a few. I could
easily name 15-25 ,but if a few of us did that it would make it so that
the suggestions of those who only suggest one would get buried.
3) Please just post the wines, no commentary. This might be hard on
verbose
people like myself, but might encourage those who might otherwise be
hesitant (if 7 people posted before you, each with comments, might not
feel as comfortable just posting your wine). Certainly feel free to
start a thread of your tasting impressions of any wine(s) and be as
verbose as you want!
4) No bashing of others' suggestions. Let's try to be supportive as
possible. If someone posts a wine you hate, feel free to start a
thread of your tasting impressions of the wine and be as verbose as you
want as to how horrible is.
5) Please try to be sure that the wines you suggest are reasonably
available (wines only at one store, or at a winery is less valuable as
a monthly resource)
6) If we continue this, how about a 2 month limit on posting any wine.
This will ensure the list is a bit fresher.

Whew. Sound ok? This is an experiment, but I for one am willing to give
it a try. To keep this thread as clean as possible, I'll post a
second thread where you can make suggestions, call me an ass for trying
this, etc. Can we try just posting suggested wines here? I'll follow
with my suggestions.

I hadn't heard of this wine before. How does it compare to his CdR
Sommelongue?

Wow, D, you can find Loimer in a PA state store? You must have better
stores in P'burgh than I've seen in Philly, you lucky dog you.

I've only had the Sommelongue once or twice, but the I think the
L'Enclos is a bit lighter bodied, and what I think of as a more
classic Cotes du Rhone. It has the balance between fuit and Rhone
funkiness that I like. The Sommelongue seemed bigger, fruitier, with
lower acid.

I like the Sommelongue as well, but since this was a QPR thread, I
also wanted to mention a couple that I really like that are $10 or
less. A lot of people I know who are new to wine or just intimidated
by it are more likely to take a chance on a European wine (ie a wine
they may have no frame of reference for) that is sub $10 rather than
$10-15.

'03 Clos du Roy Fronsac -- 7 EU. (just tasted, a young monster but should be
very nice in a couple of years).
'04 Beaumes de Venise, Cave de Beaumes -- 5 EU
'04 Corbieres Dom Ste Marie des Crozes 'Cuvee Vigneron' -- 2 EU !
'04 Schlossberg Riesling, Coop -- 7 EU

All should be pretty widely available.

Hi Mark. Seems like someone at the PLCB must like GV
I do see that the Philly store at 1218 Chestnut still has 11 units
available...
Seems like then eastern side of Pennsylvania gets all the interesting
Rieslings, tho'

The PLCB store in Wyomissing (Berks County) also has several GV's; it
is what they call a Specialty store.
