How long can an open packet of tofu keep, provided that I have it in a
plastic bag, in my refrigerator?

Does anyone know?

Nikitta,
I would keep it at most 1 week. I presume you have the tofu in water....I
would change that water each day to help keep it fresh.

I have it as it was, in the original, but opened packet, with no water
(as it wasn't in water when I bought it), but wrapped in a plastic
bag. I needed 1,5 packet of tofu to make sweet and sour tofu, so I
have 1/2 packet which I haven't gotten around to using yet. I suppose
I could slice it and fry it with some onion today, if it's still okay
to eat after 6 days. I suppose it's safe if it doesn't smell bad?

I keep mine in a plastic container with a lid and change the water every
day, I keep it till it's gone, sometimes that's a few days, sometimes that
more than a few weeks, I have never had tofu go bad....LG

I'd still put it in water. Change the water daily or every couple of
days, and when you change the water, give it a sniff. As long as it
doesn't smell sour, you should be ok (and when it first starts to smell
sour, it's usually still ok as long as you use it right away and cook it
thoroughly). A week is the average shelf-life, although I've had some
last longer, and some not last that long.

I read somewhere that you can freeze open tofu, as another option.
I've tried it and although it does change the consistency, it's still
pretty good. It works well for me, then I don't feel as though I have
to eat it all within the same week.
