Blimey I have a lot of stuff in my cupboards. Cans of various kinds
of beans, bags of various dried beans, packets of grains, a thousand kinds of noodle. I'm going to try and reduce the stocks, and then build them up again with only the things that I use a lot of. I mean, I don't need to have five cans of borlotti beans. I need to have five cans of chickpeas, because I like them better and will actually use them. Simmering away on the stove right now is a spicy stew with two of those cans of borlotti beans in. One of them was nearly out of date. Here are some guidelines for making bean stews: http://www.earth.li/~kake/cookery/ar...ean-stews.html I also have a lot of barley to use up. I'll have to see if the current rice cooker can cope with it. Anyone else hoard stuff they hardly ever use, and run out of the things they do use, or is it just me? Kake |

I'm exactly the same. I buy food on impulse, much as other people do clothes, and then find it in my freezer or the back of the cupboard months later. I'm trying to buy all the food for a particular meal and shop little and often. But then I lapse and fall into my bad ways again. You also need a lot of time to keep organised; sometimes I'm just too busy! Deb |

You Are Not Alone.
The black hole in my house is our deep freezer. I'm determined to go through everything in there this year. I vow to either eat it or compost it. Otherwise, I won't have an excuse to go u-picking for raspberries this year! It gets really funny once you start buying things again, because you thought
you'd run out but then forget to buy things, you actually need... keeps happening to me ![]() "Kate L Pugh" wrote in message ... Blimey I have a lot of stuff in my cupboards. One of ours went on the blink last week, and housemates moved everything into the other freezer. I almost told them "just throw my stuff out! I want a fresh start!" but it felt wasteful and besides I know there's some gorgeous lentil/aubergine soup and some home-made tomato sauce in there that I really want to use. Some time. Soon. Honest.
