Once upon a time Victor was a very intelligent, resourceful and
insightful person. Sitting on the streets all these years have hardened him considerably, i hardly recognize him today. He should be the first person to recognize that uppermiddle class america is on a crusade to criminalize poverty, and the marginalize homeless. |

It's all the fault of people who work for a living, that some people are bums. :O

In Palo Alto the sit-lie ordinance was specifically extended from the main street downtown several blocks away to target Victor. He is still foolish enough to hold onto the american dream, pretending not to notice that our civil liberties are under attack and fast disappearing. This is the point i was trying to make, not to endlessly argue a flawed concept about the classist and racist nature of our society, work ethics, pc greed, nimbyist attitudes and about who or what a bum is or isn't. |

You mean Americans are finally fed up with all this PC crap that bums, druggies, alkies, and derelicts are somehow "victims" who are not to be held to the same standard as everyone else, right? Since when is camping out on a sidewalk or ****ing/shitting in public a "civil liberty"? This is the point i was trying to make, not to endlessly argue a flawed concept about the classist and racist nature of our society, You made your point - you're a closet commie. Maybe you can buy Victor a ticket to Cuba if you care so ****ing much... :O

He's set his goals and he is sticking to them without compromise except for whatever may be physically forced upon him. At his age, the human body experiences problems like type II diabetes, insulin resistance, and hormone changes. These things are harder to control when you're poor. Maybe this is what you're looking at. Apart from that, he is out panhandling like a job. He has a very strong work ethic, not to be swayed by anyone. There are times he's out there 10 hours per day in the hot weather. He is indeed very intelligent. |

Maybe you can buy Victor a ticket to Cuba if you care so ****ing much... :O| Panhandling on a sidewalk has substantial elements of "expressive activity" which involves the "civil liberty" of freedom of expression. People will perceive your panhandling differently on whether you are sitting or standing. If you are sitting, you will seem safer to approach or pass by. If you are standing, a passerby might not feel as safe and might avoid you completely at a "safe distance". The "sit-lie" ordinance interferes with this choice of personal expression. It creates government-mandated non-verbal expression to others by making the panhandler stand up. Read the case Roulette v. City of Seattle http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/script...h/9435354.html On the second point above, the bums on the streeets are not the major entitlement bunnies of our society, who are not held to the same standard of responsibility as shmos like us. |
