Upton TC98 Ceylon Green:
Dry leaf: mostly bud and leaf, twisted lengthwise into thin "wires" 1-2 mm thick, 20-30 mm long. Infusion: 4 tbs dry tea (tough to measure - I should do by weight) 500 ml deionized water @ 180 F, 3 minutes. Color: bright yellow. Nose: faint, slightly perfumed (floral - jasmine, perhaps). Palate: dominant notes of grass and wood, overlayed with more floral elements, and something incense-like: sandalwood, perhaps. No noticeable astringency. Despite being sold as a green, this tea is an oolong, IMHO. Wet, the leaf edges are brown; I'd guess 20-25% oxidation. The flavor has the floral characteristics I expect from an oolong, and there's a faint toastiness that reminds me of a roasted TGY. A new tea for me. I can't say I'm bowled over, but it's interesting and different. Regards, Dean |
