Found this in Asia Times today, it's pretty interesting about how the puerh
prices got driven up and how they are falling now. It also mentions some
producers making poor quality tea to cash in on the boom (not a surprise of
course). It shows the fact that tea speculation is just that-speculation and
the investor takes the risks, but also that some producers or buyers were
hoarding to create a false scarcity. Interesting.

Indeed. I've been saying this for the past 2 years, and I've seen it
on a first-hand basis. Many people here are buying in bulk and not
even knowing what they are getting, actually. They have money to
burn, so they burn it on a ton, literally, of low quality tea.

I hope we start seeing this reputed price drop in the on-line sellers soon.
These constant price rises are scary and depressing.

I haven't bought any puer in about a year. I was in a Chinatown
tourist shop recently and the ubiquitous CNNP shu bing was $10! I
stopped buying when I paid $50 for a kilo when I was paying $10
several years earlier. I've got a good selection of 2000-2005. I
really like those 10 x 100g tongs.

PS Puer prices are like oil prices. There is too much of a vested
interest to let the market determine the price. The spike
normalization is higher than the previous.

Don't bet on seeing that price drop. Only people that "know" the
market will be able to benefit from the supposed "price drop" that
will occur. It's already starting to happen but it will still
continue to be a bull market. It's always the case when any market
is flooded with substandard goods.
