Does tuna have more mercury than other fish?

I like salmon better but salmon is more likely to have parasites
because it's both salt and fresh water fish.

The only other fish I like is yellowtail.

I suppose all the cheap fish have been tried at one time or another.
Is there any relatively cheap fish that taste good raw?

Koreans eat live octopus. Why is octopus for sushi cooked?

Tuna is up there with other large predatory fish like Swordfish.
The high up the food chain the more accumulated mercury.

If you are talking about wild salmon that is true.
Which is why salmon was not a traditional sushi neta.
But today most salmon is farmed atlantic salmon, plus
many itamae marinate the salmon. It doesn't seem marinated because after
marination htey cut off the surface layer that has changed color.
So it looks completely "raw".

Yes, Hamachi is a tasty fish.

Relatively cheap fish depends on your location.
In Japan, Aji, Sanma, Saba are all "cheap" fish. But they spoil quickly.
On the US North East Coast, Striped Bass, Porgy, Black seabass, Fluke
(summer flounder), Tuna are all caught locally.
The fish that is airfreighted in from Japan usually costs more
than local fish.

Koreans also eat Anago chopped, live and squirming.
In Japan it's always cooked.
No particular reason, just turned out that way,
Americans eat hard shell clams (little necks) raw. Japanese do not.
BTW, you "can" sometimes find raw Octopus sashimi. I've had it,
it's nowhere near as gross as it may sound.

I saw a news article about fish being brain food, etc..
and towards then end they warned pregnant women and children
to avoid eating alot of shark, swordfish, and mackerel because
of the mercury.

Mackerel? I didn't they they were high in mercury. Tuna yes,
if it isn't farmed.

I wouldn't worry about parasites all that much unless its Pacific
salmon.

Striped bass if you catch your own.. only cost you the price of a good
fishing rod, reel, line, hook, and bait Actually, I can get sashimi
grade salmon for about $9/lb. That's pretty cheap.

To give it a more solid texture, I believe.

King mackeral has been on the high mercury level lists for a while.
Only had this once or twice as sushi neta.

Regular saba....seems much safer.

Thank you, Karen. You have a lovely smile. Should we ever meet I will
cook something for you. Do not invite Dan to dine with us though, I
dislike Dan...He is a pompous, snip.

Oh come on.. I might actually eat something you made if I could be
sure of your hygene. Or if I could oversee the job.

I come here, not often, but from time to time to flirt with attractive
women such as you. And, of course, to scowl in Dan's general
direction. Did you know that food has replaced sex in Dan's life to
such a degree that now he can't even get into his own pants.

Right.. that would explain why I have two children. You know me like
the back of your head.

You just like me.. admit it.
