Default Rice cooker

Whatever you get, please don't bother with Sunpentown. I brought one 6
months ago and the coating already came off. I took it back to the
retailer but they refused to help me and asked me to call warranty
department of the manufacturer. When I did, the service people refused
to honor the 1 year warranty and suggested I buy a new one. They were
saying I scratched it too hard and that's considered abuse and
improper usage. I have used rice cookers for over 20 years and never
had such problem with the mainstream brands like national or
panasonic.

Any recommendations on a automatic electric rick cooker for one or two
cups?

Which brand or model combines ease of use; long lasting; safe from
burns; results in a good cooked rice?

the thing is rice cookers aren't really hi tech stuff. it just cooks rice.
and we just eat it.

buy taiwanese or chinese.

I am not familar with Chinese or Taiwanese rice cookers.
However I did use a Korean one for many years until I eventually
replaced it with a hi-tech fuzzy logic Japanese one.
It worked fine and made fine rice for many years.
So I see no reason why Chinese or Taiwanese ones shouldn't be
just as good either.

If a good cup of cooked rice is all you need, most of the brands do

this
without problem. Ease of use? You put in rice and water, plug in

rice
cooker, press the button. How difficult is that?

I use an old hand-me-down Panasonic Rice-o-mat rice cooker.

I still have the Tatung rice cooker I brought with me (the kind that
needs water inside and outside.) It's built like a tank.

yeah tatung is an excellent taiwanese brand.

It doesn't have any digital read out. Put in the rice and
water and press the button and the rice is cooked perfectly
every time. However, inorder to prevent the cooked rice
from drying out in the rice cooker I do unplug the cooker after
the rice is cooked. If I want to reheat the rice it goes
into the Microwave otherwise the leftover goes into the
refridgerator. Digital rice cooker are better at keeping
cooked rice warm and moist for a longer period of time.
So if you are cooking for a group of people who are eating
at various of times and you want to maintain cooked rice
warm and moist for a couple of hours then one might want
to consider one of those hi-tech digital "fuzzy" rice
cooker.

We like our 5-cup Zojirushi. Never burns; rice always just right.

We also liked our 10-cup, 15-year old National until it died. Replaced it
with a new model and the rice burns on the bottom. Sent it back for
Panasonic to repair and the thing still is not right.

The best rice comes out of our 55-cup Rinnai gas rice cooker. g

has anyone noticed that there seems to be an optimal 'depth' of rice -
more than about 3" or less than 1.5" and it doesn't seem to cook as
evenly (you have to stir, but then you lose steam which affects
adsorption if you lift the lid that frequently). the point is to
suggest that if you are not going to make a lot of rice, bigger is not
necessarily better when choosing the size of the cooker.

I own, use and have bought for family members a National / Panasonic
SR-CG05NW 3 Cup Fuzzy Logic Multiple Menu Electronic Rice Cooker. Main
reason I like is I am making rice for one and this unit is one of the
smaller ones that has all the bells and whistles. Below is a link to where
I buy them online. Not an employee just a very satisfied customer.
