Piranha is actually tasteless and bony-totally forgettable fare.

And being that it's a fresh water fish, I would pass on the sushi.

Do you prefer wild piranhas or farmed piranhas Sam?
:P

I saw an episode of Lonely Planet a few years back which was hosted by
the red haired fella (can't remember his name). They caught piranha
and seemed to just cook them on sticks above a small fire. Looked like
any other boring white, freshwater fish.

Now the phrase 'man eating fish' has two meanings...

They are pretty much boring freshwater fish, except they do have pretty
sharp teeth, and they can bite hours after they are dead. Hence their
reputation.

What's up Dan!

I've seen Amazon footage of natives doing this. I would enjoy it more
with some salt, pepper, and garlic.

But from what I saw in the footage, the native hate them because they
are such a pain (literally) to deal with in their nets.

I went to the Amazon once, but not to an area that had piranhas. Which
is good, because that would've made bathing in the Orinoco... less fun.

My brother went on a trip to the Cojedes state in Venezuela[*], and they
fished out a piranha (called "coro-coro" in Vzla) as part of the trip.
The guide smashed the piranha's head with a rock, and explained that
that prevented the fish from biting, even though it was already dead.

They didn't cook it right there, though. They brought it back for the
cook at the lodge. My brother says that it was pretty good[**], a white
nongreasy fish.

As a side story (as if this wasn't OT enough), on the same trip, the
very superstitious guide hastened to return, because after dark the
"balls of fire" come out. No one was sure what exactly those could be,
but apparently he was terrified of them.
[*] Specifically, he http://www.branger.com/pinero.html - my brother
had a fantastic time there.
[**] Actually, he said "like a carite", but I don't know the English
name for that. If you know what it is, I'd like to know.

Yes indeed. I now work in what appears to be the black hole of sushi
restaurants--Kendall. The only one I have found is in the food court,
and I refuse to try it. You work around there, right? Know of any
others within walking distance?

You're right, it's a sushi wasteland. Closest thing is in Harvard, as
far as I've found.. and that's more like T distance unless you're up for
a nice walk. Yokohama in Brookline is good though.

We'll have to meet for lunch again.

Yeah, I'm sad. The whole food situation in Kendall is baffling to me,
actually. There were so many more options in Fenway!

Except for The Sandwich (the chicken sandwich at Emma's, the
sandwich/pizza place next to One Kendall Sq.) That's a tasty sandwich.

We'll have to meet for lunch again.

Yeah, totally!

You're better off than me. I'm over by the BU bridge, which has absolutely
nothing notable within walking distance. So if I have to drive, I might as
well drive to Allston or Central Sq. or Brookline.

The closest sushi is Cafe Sushi in Harvard, which was fair. Parking there is
a pain, so I'm not likely to go back. I usually end up at Yokohama.

If you haven't been, try Mary Chung's in Central Sq. for Chinese. The Suan La
Chow Show is awesome!

Oh, DAN! You are such a romanticist.

Meh. Just looking for an excuse to have sushi for lunch,
as none of my coworkers eat sushi.
