| Sushi (alt.food.sushi) For talking sushi. (Sashimi, wasabi, miso soup, and other elements of the sushi experience are valid topics.) Sushi is a broad topic; discussions range from preparation to methods of eating to favorite kinds to good restaurants. |

My brother hasn't been fishing as much since his head injury. Omedetou on your son's birth. How old, now? Sorry to hear about your bother. My son will be 2 in February. We've tried to give him little bits of sushi and sashimi, but it hasn't taken yet. He eats cooked fish without a problem. My other big thrill was getting to eat food prepared by an Iron Chef challenger. Mmmmmm, what did you have? Lox & cream cheese on a bagel, with a little shaved red onion, absolutely delish. On sushi? No thankyou! Maybe some capers too. Maybe a piece of lettuce, or a slice of tomato, too. But then it gets a bit ridiculous. But I love capers and smoked salmon. Yeah, it becomes a sandwich. I find the cream cheese fats "clogs" flavor receptors on the tongue. When I had Philly rolls in the past, I had to drink a lot of hot tea before I was able to really taste the next item. Yeah. Blech. I managed to have some fusion sushi with cream cheese that was in a fried roll, but that was so far from "sushi" that I just sort of gave up on any expectations. Luckily my wife has gotten away from the silly rolls. She likes maki zushi more than I do, other than the traditional. I don't like to get filled up on makis, especially fried neta types like spider or tempura shrimp. Fills me up. -- Dan |

You don't like smoked fish and cream cheese on a bagel? She said cream cheese on a bagel is delightful, she didn't say smoked fish was nasty. I know what she did and didn't say. I'm trying to paint her into a corner by saying she doesn't like lox and cream cheese together on a bagel. Oy! That's not a treat? I've never had cream cheese on any kind of sushi to my knowledge. But if cream cheese coats your mouth, what difference does it make what the delivery system is? Maki zushi. When I first started eating sushi, my wife would order Philidephia rolls, which were cream cheese, cucumber makis. It was ok, but really not my kind of sushi. Some places include smoked salmon to make it bagel sushi. I don't like the idea of rice and cream cheese, but can't say I dislike it as I've never tried it. Relative to whether cream cheese coats your mouth, I never really thought about it. If it did I have a drink of something. -- ///--- Vote for the richest Republican. He understand the common man. |

My other big thrill was getting to eat food prepared by an Iron Chef challenger. Mmmmmm, what did you have? It's been a few months, so memory's fading, especially since it was for just a few bites of lunch. An amazing hamachi ceviche with basil and ponzu, as I recall. So then I like having a lox salad, with cream cheese and a bagel on the side! I don't like to get filled up on makis, especially fried neta types like spider or tempura shrimp. Fills me up. Fried neta stuff is...sorta boring, normally. |

To point out that lox and cream cheese are good, which it seems you know, and not any significant different between smoked salmon and cream cheese. Smoked salmon is not my preference on sushi rice, either. It's a bit...overwhelming. ![]() |
