If the Colossal Squid is similar to the Giant Squid, then
the high amonia content in the flesh would make it
unsuitable for human consumption.

While you are certainly right about the high ammonia content of the
larger squid, it would appear that they've already munched on some of
this guy....

Perhaps it's a freshness thing and the ammonia is from tissue breakdown.
Just a guess without a clue.

I was thinking the same thing, but then I'm not a marine biologist.
Could this be a case of guys with too many degrees not perceiving the
obvious - the thing don't taste so good because it's been lying around
the lab for a few weeks?
