| Sushi (alt.food.sushi) For talking sushi. (Sashimi, wasabi, miso soup, and other elements of the sushi experience are valid topics.) Sushi is a broad topic; discussions range from preparation to methods of eating to favorite kinds to good restaurants. |

I just had the all-you-can eat special at Sushi Hama in Tucson, for
$19.50. I had ten 2-each orders of nigiri (maguro, hamachi, sake, shiro maguro, tako, ika, unagi, hotetegai, and hokigai. The sushi is all made to order, not selected from a buffet table. I also had two temaki--salmon skin and calamari. They also give you edamame, misoshiru, fake japanese salad with iceberg lettuce and fake crab, and your choice of any or all of gyoza, tempura, and udon (I had the gyoza, but skipped the tempura and udon, not because I didn't want them, but beause I couldn't eat that much). Nothing was the best I've ever had, but everything was very decent except the salmon skin hand roll, which was terrible), and I enjoyed it very much, especially at the very reasonable price. On Monday through Thursday, the same deal is $15 and change, an even better deal. -- Ken Blake Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Question: Do they make you finish all the rice there? That's why I
like Todai, because they don't, so they don't just fill you up on cheap rice. I got a sound yelling at at Harvest Buffet in NY once for leaving over rice from the sushi, tho I later became friendly with the guy who was doing the yelling. Harvest Buffet, by the way, is the best Asian buffet that I've ever seen. I wish they'd branch out. |

I don't just eat the fish, but their standard rice-fish proportion
might be too high for me, so sometimes I might leave over some rice, and I don't want to be in a place where they have leftover rice police. I hardly leave over any rice at the Todai anyway, since beside the sushi they have a bowl of just fish pieces. |

Question: Do they make you finish all the rice there? Sorry, no idea. They do have a note on the menu that if you order something and don't eat it, they will charge you full price for it. I have no idea whether they enforce that rule, but I wouldn't have a problem if they did. It seems fair to me. -- Ken Blake Please Reply to the Newsgroup |
