Default Sushi Ten Update

Jan 2007

Werewolf, if you're still around, you might be interested in knowing
that I
ate in Sushi Ten (in Tucson, AZ, for those of you have haven't read
Werewolf's glowing praise of it here) last night for the first time
since
the change in ownership

Yes, it's been bought by Sushi Hama, but there were very few changes.
The
place looks identical, the staff is all (or almost all) new, there are
some
new non-sushi menu choices, but the sushi is much as the same as it
always
has been been. The fish was generally very fresh and very good, but
still
cut much too large. The quality of the rice was still fairly poor. The
only
neta that I didn't like was the tako, which was very tough (perhaps
because
the pieces were so large).

Overall it was much as it's been in the past: acceptable, and good
value for
the price, but far from outstanding. Tucson is not known for
outstanding
sushi, and I don't know a better place here, although for an even
better
value I'd go to our closer Sushi Hama, which still has a $20 all-you-
can-eat
deal (made to order for you at the bar, not on a buffet). The quality
is the
same, but the price is much lower. My sushi at Sushi Ten last night
came to
$45, and I could have had all the same things and the same quality for
$20.

April 2007

The place has really gone into free fall now. Went there today. The
fact that the formerly crowded restaurant was sparsely populated
should have warned me away. Sat at the bar and ordered the usual
chirashi. It was then that i noticed that the two sushi chefs were
not Japanese but Mexican. I've never seen that before. The Mexican
sushi chef actually made a nice chirashi presentation, lots of stuff
on the rice. That was the good part. The bad part was the rice
sucked and so did everything else.

No more Tucson sushi for me, certainly no more Sushi Ten. I'll wait
until I get up north to Sushi Ken!

Please don't reply below a signature delimiter. It causes some newsreader
software to strip your reply. I had to add the following quote manually.

My new favorite in Tucson is a place that opened recently, called Sushi
Yukari. It's on River and Swan, where Shabu-Shabu Tanaka used to be.

"Signature delimiter"? What's that? It sounds like something from
"This Island Earth"! Anyway, I deleted that post - or thought I did
- so how come you're replying to it? I never understood the mechanics
of Google Group...

Anyway, I've had it with Tucson sushi. I'll save my sushi eating for
Ahwatukee up north, because that's where the late great S10 is now,
only it's now Sushi Ken, but it's the same merry gang and I got a big
hello and they even remembered exactly what I always used to order
even tho it's been how long, almost two years?!
