Preacher Caught Selling Endangered Sharks Leopard Shark Kevin Thompson, 48 a Preacher at the Unification church in San Leandro, Calif has pleaded guilty to organizing a worldwide shark poaching and smuggling ring. He could receive up to eight years in prison and fines totaling $1 million for the scheme. Thompson was one of six people caught buying and selling thousands of undersized leopard sharks. He was arrested as a result of an FBI sting operation. According to investigators, Thompson paid fisherman about $3 a piece for baby sharks they caught and then resold the sharks to dealers for up to $35 each.
