Figured it's about time for me to pig out on $25 AYCE sushi at Atami in
VA. Soooo I drive half an hour to get there. It looks like it's been closed for a while. It as well as several adjacent stores was empty and bare. Too bad. Now I'll have to drive twice as far to pig out. |

You can pig out for half that price at lunchtime, and good quality stuff too. ****ed me off when they closed the one in Phoenix. They should just have moved it to a more appropriate neighborhood. People should consult with me before they do anything! |

That Todai in Phoenix was in a horrible location. I think the first time I
went to that shopping mall I gave up and ate somewhere else because they didn't an entrance in the mall area itself. I parked in the back lot so, I did not see its entrance facing the street. What in the heck were they thinking when they put it there? For a chain type operation, I don't understand why they don't put one in near North Tucson and another in Phoenix along Baseline road. Heck, one down the street from Fry's Electronics would get a huge business from the people crossing over from their weekend shopping to AYCE Sushi. wrote in message oups.com... I think they got a screaming deal from the property because it was an upstairs location in a strange spot. It was also shaped funny because it was crammed into that space. I wasn't impressed enough - especially with the sushi - to go back. For a chain type operation, I don't understand why they don't put one in near North Tucson and another in Phoenix along Baseline road. Heck, one down the street from Fry's Electronics would get a huge business from the people crossing over from their weekend shopping to AYCE Sushi. As too-upscale as the Biltmore location was, that neighborhood would be too-downscale. Todai looks like it tries for a slightly upscale sort of image. It would probably work well in one of the other malls, though. --Blair |

My single experience with Todai was poor and I have no desire to repeat it. For $19.50 at dinner (less at lunch) Tucson has two locations of Sushi Hama, where you get all the sushi you can eat freshly made for you at the sushi bar. It's certainly not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's good, much better than Todai, and at the price, a bargain. -- Ken Blake Please reply to the newsgroup |

....Todai looks like it tries for a slightly
upscale sort of image. It would probably work well in one of the other malls, though. Yeah, they seem to like a moderately upscale shopping mall - but not a yuppy heaven like the Biltmore Plaza - and they also want a good customer base of local Asian population which did not exist at the Biltmore. They also seem to be quick to shut down their restaurants that aren't doing well, Phoenix is not the only one. They must lose a LOT of money if the restaurants aren't always busy - and the last time I was in the Phoenix place it was very empty. If they hire me, I'll tell them where they should build one in Phoenix, namely somewhere down around Dobson in Mesa-Chandler, like that big shopping mall between Dobson and Alma School, south of Southern. That should be just about perfect for them - or maybe another mall in Chandler. I'm afraid that Tucson wouldn't have large enough Asian population for them. But I don't know if they are interested in opening up again in cities in which they have already failed. I don't think so. ww |

My limited Todai experience in Phoenix was better overall then the AYCE
sushi in Tucson. Maybe I haven't found the right AYCE in Tucson yet. "Ken Blake" wrote in message ... anon wrote: That Todai in Phoenix was in a horrible location. I never ate at Todai in Phoenix, but I did in White Plains, NY. That single taste of Todai was enough for me, and I won't go to any of them anymore -- Ken Blake Please reply to the newsgroup "Ken Blake" wrote in message ... anon wrote: That Todai in Phoenix was in a horrible location. Ken Blake wrote: "I never ate at Todai in Phoenix, but I did in White Plains, NY." That one's closed already, it didn't last long! Ken must not be the only one who hated it! Todai's website says they are planning a future opening of a new one in - uh - May 2006 - in Korea restaurantville on W. 32nd Street in Manhattan. I guess their plans for a new one on Long Island fell through too because there's no mention of it. There are also a number of privately owned Todai's that call themselves something like HB Todai (the one in huntington beach, CA), and another one I went to a month or 2 ago someplace else in in CA. Maybe White Plains has morphed into one of those. I've found them to be much inferior to the real Todais. |
