Default Dinners & Dinner Parties 1862 FA

Dinners & Dinner parties by G.V. 1862 Covers a little worn,otherwise in
good condition.
The first thing one realises about this book is that the author holds
most women and all servants in complete contempt, and rarely misses and
opportunity to make this plain. In fact he devotes several chapters to
pointing out their failings. On hiring a cook, the author states that is
best that you shave her head to avoid hygeine problems and then follows
it up with this statement : - " Ascertain if she is healthy in body:her
person ought to smell as sweet as a cow. If she has damp hands or foul
breath or wears a seton,or has sore legs, get rid of her at once...or
everything she touches will be tainted."

The title of chapter three says it all, " In England the ladies are
taught to despise the art of cookery." he is not to keen on the
upwardly mobile either as indicated by the title of chapter three "
Misery of those that attempt to imitate Belgravia."

There are however lots of recipes, advice on dinner parties, guests
,wines, menus etc, and the whole thing makes for a fascinating and
sometimes alarming read! Very scarce item.
