Buster Bar Ice Cream Cake
1 lb. chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed 1/2 cup margarine 1/2 gal. vanilla ice cream, softened (see below for home made vanilla ice cream) 10 oz. jar fudge topping 12 oz. chopped peanuts 8-oz. tub frozen whipped topping Melt margarine and mix with crushed cookies. Press half of mixture into bottom of 9x13" pan. Spread ice cream on top of cookie mixture. Spread fudge topping over the ice cream, sprinkle with peanuts, then spread whipped topping over peanuts. Top with remaining cookie mixture. Freeze overnight. Serves 15. Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream Custard Base Recipe: 4 egg yolks 1/2 pint (250ml) milk 1/2 pint (250ml) double/heavy cream 4 oz (100g) caster sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Scald the milk (bring slowly up to boiling point in a saucepan). Separately, mix together the egg yolks and sugar until thick. Pour into this the hot milk, whilst continuously stirring. Then pour the mixture back into the pan and heat gently, stirring until the custard thickens. Do not bring to a boil or it will probably curdle. When you can see a film form over the back of your spoon it's time to remove the saucepan from the heat. Set aside to cool. This is the custard base and one you can use in many other recipes. When the custard base is cold, stir in the cream and vanilla extract, then transfer the whole mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. OR Quick Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream recipe for kids This is not as good as the custard base ice cream but fun for the kids. 1/2 pint (250ml) single/light cream small can of condensed milk 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Pour all ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix until smooth. Transfer the whole mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions. -- Old Magic 1 You are invited to join our new cooking and recipe group "The Recipe Bank".
